How do you start your day? I am a morning person and usually follow the same routine of meditation, walking my dog, Penny, enjoying eggs and green tea and reading the newspapers. Yes, actual print newspapers!
What is the most difficult thing you’ve had to do? The most difficult thing I have had to do is witness my father battle terminal lung cancer for the past four years. He is the strongest and most courageous man I know.
What’s one thing most people don’t know about you? I was the very first female student body president at George Washington University when I was elected president of the Student Association in 1998.
Who’s been an important influence in your life and why? My parents instilled in me the values of faith, humility and hard work. With those values, you can accomplish anything.
In what ways are you seeing your industry changing? The way we engage in live sporting events has changed forever due to the pandemic. The lack of engagement in live sports has reduced revenue drastically which impacts every person and every part of the sports industry. The continued emergence of e-sports, sports gambling and digital fan engagement are areas of growth to watch.
What advice would you give to up-and-coming female leaders? Do not be afraid to be disruptive. Be creative. Be bold. Be confident. Be brave. Do the work. We have to be the change we wish to see in the world.
The most important trait for being an effective leader is: The most important trait for being an effective leader is listening followed by empathy. A leader has to start with the premise that everyone is there for the same reason and believe that everyone is doing their best. If a leader can get alignment on purpose, listen to others, and show empathy, great things will happen.
